Who Is Mon Mothma Recruiting to Join the Rebellion on ANDOR?
Senator Mon Mothma of Chandrila is the leader of the Rebel Alliance by the time of the original trilogy, and her rise to that position is going to make for one of the key aspects of Andor. You could even say that Genevieve O’Reilly, who plays Mon Mothma on the series, is a co-lead of a sort along with Diego Luna as the title character.
But in the rest of the season (and into season two), who will Mon Mothma recruit to the cause? Episode four of Andor already hinted at such events. The Andor creators have stated that the series won’t be Easter egg-heavy. But we still think that we’ll see some familiar faces in the hierarchy of the Rebels. Especially those we saw in Rogue One. Here’s who we expect Mon Mothma to recruit into the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
Senator Bail Organa and Queen Breha Organa
This one is basically a given. Alderaanian senator Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits) and his wife Queen Breha (Simone Kessel), who most recently appeared in Obi-Wan Kenobi, are the backbones of the Alliance. Especially by the time we get to Rogue One/A New Hope. From what we know from Rebels, they are already running missions as soon as just a year out from Andor. Not to mention, Bail and Mon had ties in a secret organization working against Palpatine going as far back as Revenge of the Sith. We fully expect to see Smits and Kessel make a welcome return in Andor at some point.
General Jan Dodonna
General Jan Dodonna was the bearded and gruff leader of the Rebel forces on Yavin IV base in A New Hope. We saw him again (played by Game of Thrones actor Ian McElhinney) in Rogue One. He also appeared in several episodes of Rebels. He was a key part of the early Rebel Alliance victories. So it would make sense if we saw how Mon Mothma brought in this former Clone Wars commander to the Alliance side. And seeing as how the character was in Rogue One, it stands to reason that he’d appear in Andor.
Admiral Raddus
Before Admiral Ackbar led the Alliance to victory on Endor, another member of the Mon Calamari species helped the Rebels win a crucial victory. Admiral Raddus was in charge of the star cruiser Profundity during the battle of Scarif, and helped the Rebellion retrieve the Death Star plans. (Later, in the sequel trilogy, a Resistance ship was named for him). Sadly, he also died in the battle of Scarif. But as a key character in Rogue One, we expect to see him join the cause at some point.
General Crix Madine
You might remember General Madine from the Rebel briefing in Return of the Jedi. A scene that also introduced us to Mon Mothma. (You might also remember him for his very unfortunate hairdo). The former Imperial officer defected to the Alliance and became a General in charge of covert actions. In fact, he gets an actual name drop in Jedi, which few new characters did.
While we didn’t see him in Rogue One or the previous films, one can assume he was around during the Skywalker Saga. As part of covert operations, he might have been on a secret mission during that time. Seeing his recruitment would make sense in Andor, given his proximity to Mon Mothma in Return of the Jedi. They obviously worked together well, so we’d like to see the origins of that relationship.
General Carlist Rieekan
This one is a bit of a long shot, but he’s an important Alliance general, so we may yet see him on Andor in some form. We first met General Carlist Rieekan on Echo Base on Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back, having taken over from General Dodona. He was another high-up officer during the Clone Wars, who defected to the Rebellion after seeing Imperial atrocities. He was also from Alderaan, so he probably served under Bail Organa. If/when we see Bail, we may see Rieekan. So it’s very possible we see Mon Mothma ask him to join up during the events of Andor.
