Mom whose hair fell out after pregnancy has trick to tame ‘hair horns’: ‘Postpartum hair loss is real’

A mom got real about postpartum hair loss — and TikTokers are loving her brutal honesty and her impressive “hair horn” trick!

Mom and TikToker, Bree (@breecard), held nothing back when she decided to address her post-baby hair loss, and now her funny but insightful video has over 200K views.

“If you are easily frightened, scroll past this video… I’m gonna show you the postpartum hair truth that no one else shows you,” she starts her video by saying.

She goes on to pull at the baby hairs springing from her hairline. “No, I did not cut those,” she explains. “They grew in after my hair all fell out after my last pregnancy.”

Why does hair fall out after giving birth? The answer, put simply, is hormones.

According to the American Pregnancy Association, during pregnancy, women experience an increase in estrogen hormones. This estrogen causes hair to remain in a growing phase and puts your hair in a resting phase — resulting in less everyday hair loss. This is why pregnant women typically have full, luxurious heads of hair.

But after giving birth, those increased hormones return to normal levels — and thus, your hair cycle returns to normal. All that hair loss that was delayed during pregnancy may result in your hair falling out all at once after giving birth.

“The hair loss usually peaks 3-4 months after delivery as your hair follicles rejuvenate themselves,” states the American Pregnancy Association. “This hair loss is temporary, and hair loss returns to normal within six to twelve months.”

Once your hair starts to grow back in, it might come in the form of spritely baby hairs — or “hair horns,” as Bree refers to them in her TikTok video.

But thanks to her handy tutorial, those pesky “horns” may be a thing of the past for moms!

How to pack the perfect weekender bag:

‘I wish postpartum hair loss was talked about more…’

Moms quickly flooded Bree’s video with comments, not only lauding her brilliant hair hack but also expressing frustration at the lack of postpartum info for moms-to-be.

“I asked my doc when I should expect hair loss, and he looked at me like I was crazy and told me it was a myth,” one mom shared.

“I wish postpartum hair loss was talked about more. When I had my second, I was terrified about the amount I was losing,” another mom lamented.

“WHY DOES NOBODY TALK ABOUT THIS!! I genuinely thought something was wrong with me when I had postpartum hair loss. I had no idea about it,” expressed another mom.

“Postpartum hair loss is real. My hair is slowly starting not to fall out as much,” shared one mom.

“I’m going through the hair loss part now…the struggle to not stress about it is real,” commented another mom.

“OMG THAT’S WHY I HAVE THOSE?!? I thought I just had horrible breakage,” one shocked mom wrote.

Thanks to helpful videos like this — and brutally honest moms like Bree — parents can be prepared for any postpartum challenges headed their way!

If you’re experiencing any hair loss, be sure to talk to your doctor, as it could be a sign of a vitamin or mineral deficiency or a hormonal imbalance.
