A picture can be worth a million words.

Look at artist and designer Adrienne Antonson, who recently shared a moving, unvarnished photo collage on her Instagram channel. Her followers were smitten.

In the stunning image, the founder of Georgia-based clothing label State poses in the same style of underwear during four starkly different stages of her life — at five weeks’ pregnant, at 36 weeks’ pregnant, on her daughter Edla’s first birthday, and on Edla’s second birthday, which took place on Wednesday.

5 weeks / 36 weeks / 1 year / 2 years. Today Edla turns 2,” she captioned the image.

The calendar date didn’t go unnoticed.

It’s also International Women’s Day and the perfect day for this tiny lightning bolt to have entered the world. I know she’ll continue to inspire me to be a better woman in this ever-changing world and I hope to make her proud as I stand up for what I believe in,” she wrote.

She detailed the importance of celebrating the day with her daughter. “Needless to say we’re not working today. We’ll be painting, eating cake, and spending time with women we love and admire,” she wrote in the caption.

Antonson uses the photo concept to memorialize changes in her and her daughter’s life. “We started the tradition to document the changes as I was pregnant and I just continued it after my daughter was born,” she tells Yahoo Style. “It’s incredible to see how we both change, and I look forward to doing it every year because the changes will just become more and more dramatic.”

She hopes the project will be something that they can reflect on throughout life. “Motherhood has taught me to embrace my body and all of the shifts it undergoes, and seeing it evolve over my lifetime will be a pretty incredible record for me and my daughter,” she says. “I especially love seeing how much she is growing in these early years and can only imagine it will continue to be just as incredible.”

Her followers loved the concept. “What a great photo idea! So very sweet.” Instagram user Kelsey Morris wrote. “Beautiful photo … shows love and … how woman’s body is changing after pregnancy. We, moms, are giving all the best to our kids,” another user, Katarzyna Gruca, added.

The mother hopes that her powerful images will help spread body positivity and acceptance. “I just hope people think about the changes that women undergo as mothers and accept them at every stage along the way,” she says.
