Mom uses ordinary painters tape to entertain her toddler in creative ways

This TikTok parent’s series of fun, DIY sensory activities for toddlers using painter’s tape has viewers running to the hardware store instead of the toy store!

TikToker Kate Bast (@thebastfamily) is a mom and parenting and lifestyle blogger who frequently shares fun playtime hacks and DIY crafting activities for small children. In one of her videos, Bast shows how some painter’s tape and a few toys can make for a series of fun sensory games for toddlers, and viewers are loving the simple yet engaging activities.

The clip begins with a shot of the doorway leading to Bast’s toddler’s nursery. Using the magic of TikTok editing, Bast throws a roll of painter’s tape towards the entrance, and the clip suddenly cuts to reveal a sprawling web of blue tape with various toys stuck to it.

As Bast’s toddler demonstrates in the following footage, children can search through the DIY web and collect toys as they go along, helping them with their cognitive and motor development.

Bast again applies clever TikTok editing to show the next painter’s tape game, which she calls “the rainbow tape pull.” In the shot, Bast throws different colored tape rolls to the wall resulting in a series of vertical rainbow tape strips that toddlers can peel off.

Jordyn Woods says her Instagram isn’t real life:

For Bast’s final painter’s tape trick, she simply tapes two long pieces to the floor and then has her toddler practice lining up her toys directly on each strip.

Bast’s innovative painter’s tape games sparked an enthusiastic response from viewers.

“Colored tape is now on our shopping list,” one user announced.

“I’m doing this now with my 3-year-old, thanks,” shared one parent.

“What age is this good for?” one viewer inquired, to which Bast responded, “I started these activities once my baby could sit up on her own! She’s 20 months now, and they are still a ton of fun! Close adult supervision required!”

As Bast’s video demonstrates, parents don’t need to spend a fortune on new toys for their toddlers when they can have just as much fun with some painter’s tape and the toys they already have.
