Mom fights with son after ‘expecting’ he share his bedroom with grandma: ‘Suck it up’
A woman and her husband can’t figure out how to handle their son’s refusal to accommodate his grandmother.
She asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******? (AITA)” forum for advice in the post, “AITA for expecting my son to share his room?” When she and her husband bought a house, there were two rooms available for their 12-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son.
The son chose the larger room on the condition that, sometimes, he would have to share if a family member visited. Now, three years later, his 83-year-old maternal grandmother plans on staying for three nights.
The issue is that he flat-out refused to allow his grandmother to stay in his room. He said it was because she smells funny. The mom insisted he sleeps on an air mattress either in the living room, his sister’s room or her room. But the son refused every option.

Now, her husband thinks the grandmother shouldn’t come at all to avoid drama with their son.
Redditors agreed with the mother about the issue.
“Your son sounds a bit entitled,” a person wrote.
“I think he can give his grandmother his bed and stop being a brat (which nothing against him, but is fairly typical kid behaviour),” a user commented.
“The son needs to suck it up for three days and learn about how to be a good host to guests,” another said.
