Marked by the end of summer fun and return to routine, the first day of school is often bittersweet. But, let’s be real: back to school is also a massive relief for parents, the majority of which have reached the brink of insanity by the time August rolls around. One mom decided to celebrate her kids’ return to school with a treat-yourself moment: a trip to Disney World, all by herself.
Lisa DiNoto told Good Morning America that after dropping her sons off for their first day of school, she decided to visit the park, which is just over a mile from her home. DiNoto says that she and her family are serious regulars at Disney, so it only seemed natural to her to stop by after drop-off.
DiNoto kicked things up a notch by wearing a pin that read, “Celebrating the 1st day of school!”, which she handed to various staff and characters for photos that she shared on her blog, The Castle Run. The Fairy Godmother’s reaction, DiNoto said, was the best of all. “She was laughing so hard she was crying and we just started hugging and laughing together,” she told GMA.
Of course, DiNoto felt zero guilt for her solo trip to Disney. “We live so close it’s just a regular part of our lives,” she said. “[My kids] were excited for their first day at school and I was excited for some time alone. Pickup time came soon enough and all of us had lots of fun sharing the details of our day.”
