Modesto man dies in high-speed crash at roundabout in Jamestown

A Modesto man died in a suspected DUI crash Sunday evening at a roundabout on State Route 49/108 Jamestown.

Jesus Rubio, 40, was driving a GMC Yukon at high speed south on the highway toward the roundabout at People of the Mountain Road just after 5 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Rubio made an “unsafe turning movement to the right” and struck a metal light pole.

The GMC continued in a southerly direction and overturned multiple times through the traffic circle at the roundabout, ejecting Rubio, according to the CHP.

Components of the GMC came off as it was overturning and struck a Nissan being driven north by a Stockton man.

Rubio was taken to Memorial Medical Center Modesto, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the CHP.

The driver of the Nissan was taken to Adventist Health Sonora to be treated for minor injuries.

Investigators believe Rubio was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision.
