Pennsylvania authorities had been looking for a missing teen whom they believed was in a "secretive relationship" with the 45-year-old married man. Now, the teen and the man have been turned up in Mexico.
According to SF Gate, 16-year-old Amy Yu and her 45-year-old "secret boyfriend," Kevin Esterly surfaced in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico earlier this week. They were found after an Amber alert and an international search intensified, and the pair has since returned to the United States.
According to the paper, Yu and Esterly met when she was only 8 years old. He was a father of four in his late 30s when he met Amy and her family at their church in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In the ensuing years, Yu spent a good amount of time with Esterly and his family; accompanying them on beach and camping trips.
Between Nov 13, 2017, and Feb 9, 2018, Esterly allegedly signed Yu out of the school (without her parents' permission) 10 times. Yu's mother, Miu Luu, called the police after she found out about the Feb 9 event. On Feb 15, Luu called the police again when she arrived home and Esterly and his wife were at her house with Yu.
Since the pair's return, Yu has been reunited with her family. Esterly remains in federal custody, charged with felony interference of the custody of a minor.
