A Miss. senator said she’d sit front row if she was invited to a public hanging — and Twitter is unamused.

Cindy Hyde-Smith, a Republican who has been in office since April 2018, is currently campaigning in a runoff election against Democrat Mike Espy.

In a video shared on social media Sunday by Lamar White Jr., the publisher of The Bayou Brief, Hyde-Smith can be heard addressing a crowd saying, “If he invited me to a public hanging, I’d be on the front row.” The he in question, according to The Clarion Ledger, is apparently a cattle rancher.

The 10-second video was viewed nearly 800,000 times in just a few hours.

Chrissy Teigen and Shaun King were among those criticizing Hyde-Smith.

The two were not alone.

Yahoo Lifestyle has reached out to Hyde-Smith’s office for comment and will update when we hear back.
