Here’s How The OG “Sex And The City” Cast Celebrated 25 Years Since The Show’s First Episode Aired

Slip on your Manolo Blahniks and grab yourself a Cosmo — the world is celebrating Sex And The City’s 25th birthday.

On June 6, 1998, HBO viewers had their first outing with New York City’s finest quartet: Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York, Miranda Hobbes, and Samantha Jones. And now, 94 episodes, 6 seasons, 2 spinoffs, 2 movies, and a whole 25 years later, the cast are celebrating the show’s incredible success across multiple generations.

In typical Charlotte fashion, Kristin Davis was the first of the original foursome to commemorate the day online, sharing a montage of clips from the show alongside a heartfelt message to fans.

“I consider myself the luckiest person in the world to be a part of this story that connects so many of us together. It has and continues to be a JOY!” she wrote. “Thank you to all of you who have come along for the ride. We love you 💗 #satc25”

Cynthia Nixon quickly followed suit by posting a fitting Season 1 shot of Miranda, Martini in hand, alongside a recent snap of her on set for the revival series, And Just Like That.

“How it started ➡️ how it’s going for Miranda Hobbes ❤️,” her message began. “Before the show I never thought anything as big and wonderful as this could happen to me. And now I can’t imagine my life without it!”

Over on her page, Sarah Jessica Parker kept things short and sweet with a sentimental photograph of Carrie’s iconic gold necklace, writing: “It’s our silver anniversary but the memories will always be gold. X, SJ”

And despite distancing herself from the show in recent years — notably not returning for AJLT — Samantha Jones herself, Kim Cattrall, still found a subtle way to mark the milestone, liking a tweet from the original SATC author, Candace Bushnell.

And it isn’t just the OG cast who are finding ways to celebrate the show’s decadespanning legacy.

On Monday, Vanity Fair published an article breaking down the ever-divisive topic: “Who Was the Worst Man on Sex and the City?” and, inevitably, the question sparked some major discussions over on Instagram.

From Mr. Big to Aidan, Petrovsky to Richard Wright, and even Trey MacDougal, fans gathered in the VF comments section to give their two cents on which of the show’s various eligible (and not so eligible) bachelors deserves the crown for being the worst of all time.

In testament to just how beloved SATC truly is, a number of celebrities couldn’t help but join the debate and give their impassioned thoughts on the matter, starting off with Mindy Kaling, who echoed the thoughts of many by throwing Big’s name into the ring.

“Big!!!!” she responded, branding Chris Noth’s character the “ultimate time wasting vill.” “And then he kicked the bucket. Boy bye.”

Meanwhile, Katie Couric fronted the campaign for Jack Berger — Carrie’s Season 5 Post-It note dumper — as the worst, declaring him as a “cowardly suckwad.”

She also added that she “hated” Season 6’s Petrovsky, thought the dog-loving, cigarette-hating Aidan was too “crunchy,” and gave Big a thumbs-up emoji. So, make of all that what you will.

Also joining Katie’s anti-Berger team was Ellie Goulding and Sophia Bush — the latter of whom correctly noted that ultimately, the greatest man of all was Carrie’s BFF, Stanford Blatch.

And to make matters more interesting, the discourse saw a few submissions from former SATC men themselves, starting off with Justin Theroux — who holds the title for being the only person to have cameoed as two different characters on the show.

Justin first appears in Season 1, Episode 7, as an overconfident writer named Jared, who shares a brief interaction with Carrie and Stanford in a bar, where we learn that he had just been named one of New York magazine’s “30 Coolest People Under 30.”

Despite the accolade, Jared is never seen again after that scene. But, a few episodes later in Season 2, Justin is reincarnated as Vaughn Wysel, another writer who Carrie dates briefly, before ultimately cutting things off after she realizes she gets on better with his mom than him.

So, being the jokester that he is, Justin put forward his first character, Jared, as the worst — and honestly, having rewatched his 60 second cameo, I kind of see his point.

And while Justin was throwing himself under the bus, Kyle MacLachlan opted to come to his own character’s defense.

Kyle — who famously played Charlotte’s first husband, Trey, in Seasons 3 and 4 — left a comment urging fans to overlook his character’s flaws, and even put forth a convincing argument to move him up the ranks.

“Alrighty, I’ll admit. I did give her the cardboard baby,” he began, referencing the bizarre gift he gave Charlotte in Season 4 when she was struggling to conceive. “But I think I more than made up for it by leaving her that spectacular apt…and Schooner…for a brief moment.”

Well, as the debate rages on, I think we can all agree that it’s been a pretty specular 25 years — and that Berger is, by far, the worst.
