Welp, here's totally unasked for/painful reminder of how old you are: Hannah Montana—aka one of the greatest and most lucrative Disney Channel television series of all time, it's not up for discussion—premiered a whopping 15 (!!!) years ago today. It truly felt like yesterday (*ahem* 2006) when I was
asking begging my mother to buy one of those ~trendy~ bedazzled sequin Hannah scarves and the show's season one soundtrack from Limited Too. Time flies. 😭
To honor the monumental anniversary, Miley Cyrus posted a real tear-jerker of a letter to Hannah Montana herself about how much the show actually changed her life—a stark contrast to her casually saying that Hannah was actually "murdered" during her Saturday Night Live appearance in 2013. Get your tissues ready, because here's the most emotional part of Miley's message:
"'We might be apart but I hope you always know you'll be with me wherever I go.' Hannah, I hope you hear me and believe those words are true. You have all my love and upmost gratitude. Breathing life into you for those 6 years was an honor. I am indebted not only to you Hannah but to any and everyone who believed in the beginning. You all have my loyalty and deepest appreciation until the end. With all sincerity, I say THANK YOU!
To Disney's entire team, all fellow cast members, special guests, crew, agents and managers. Especially my mommy who took me to every lesson and audition even when in required leaving town or making a cross country move when my siblings so selflessly underwent. Not a day goes by I forget where I cam from. A building in Burbank, California with a room full of people with the power to fulfill my destiny. And they did. They gave me you. The greatest gift a girl could ask for. I love you Hannah Montana.
And here's the full version, if you want to cry real tears:
But wait, there's more—"Hannah" actually responded to Miley on Twitter! "Nice to hear from you @MileyCyrus," the character wrote. "It’s only been a decade."
We're living in an episode of The Twilight Zone at this point.
Not sure what this means, but keep your fingers crossed for a reboot. In the meantime, I'll be unironically bopping to this for the rest of the day:
You love all the deets on celebs. So do we! Let’s overanalyze them together.
