Taylor Swift might’ve rocked the 2024 Grammys with the surprise reveal of her next studio album, but *no one* could take their eyes off Miley Cyrus at the annual music awards show. From her gilded red carpet getup to her electrifying “Flowers” performance (and her big win for that very song), this year’s Grammys belonged to the 31-year-old songstress.

Throughout the festive night Miley’s face makeup looked flawless, so naturally, we stalked her makeup artist for all the details of her look. Lucky for us, James Kaliardos spilled the products used for every step of the Grammys routine. But you might be surprised to learn it started with a $17 drugstore moisturizer.

According to the celebrity makeup artist, Cetaphil Daily Oil-Free Facial Moisturizer was the foundation of Miley’s completion. Though Cetaphil products were used for all the skincare steps, the lotion in particular protected her face with SPF 35 and a non-clogging formula that looks “perfect under makeup.”

“For big, major events — with Miley, like the Grammys — I need products that I know work and are suitable for sensitive skin like Miley’s, so I used a true favorite, Cetaphil, because I wanted to have the skin feel clean, hydrated, and soothed,” James Kaliardos shared on Instagram.

Miley’s actual Grammys makeup is a full face of Pat McGrath Labs (yes, the same brand responsible for Taylor Swift’s iconic red lip), but we know that the key to makeup looking fresh for hours is a great moisturizer. Cetaphil’s is an especially good choice because it’s oil-free while still hydrating skin and providing some UV protection. It’s also unscented, which is usually non-negotiable for people with sensitive skin.

Reviewers rave about the Cetaphil Daily Oil-Free Facial Moisturizer, too. Rating it a 10/10, one reviewer even said, “with all these brands out there I forget how good Cetaphil is, it’s a classic!”

“Finally found a moisturizer plus SPF that doesn't pill off the face after two applications,” said another reviewer. “It also doesn't sting. Hopefully you always make this, because I will always buy this.”

The rest of Miley’s skincare routine that night consisted of affordable Cetaphil products too. The whole night started with Kaliardos prepping her skin with Cetaphil’s Hydrating Foaming Cleanser, which he said “leaves the skin feeling so refreshed.”

He then applied Moisturizing Lotion all over to “hydrate, and create a perfect skin texture for red carpet and stage.” “This cream is lightweight but deeply nourishing,” he continued. “ I’ve used it forever and love that it leaves the skin looking velvety with [a] subtle glow.”

Based on what Miley’s MUA shared, it sounds like the Cetaphil Daily Oil-Free Facial Moisturizer — and really the whole Cetaphil line — is as optimal for everyday use as it is for primetime events. It’s not often that we hear $17 products are certified for the red carpet, after all.
