Miley Cyrus Gets Backlash for Saying “You Don’t Have to Be Gay” During a Fully WTF Instagram Live

From Cosmopolitan

  • Miley Cyrus hit Instagram Live and told fans “You don’t have to be gay” while talking about Cody Simpson.

  • Miley also said, “There are good men out there, guys, don’t give up.”

Um, good morning. In case you missed it, Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson thought it would be a good idea to hop on Instagram Live together last night, and fans are calling out their conversation for being pretty problematic.

In what they presumably hoped would be a cute and candid moment, Miley and Cody were chatting about their ~love connection~ when Miley said the following:

“There are good men out there, guys, don’t give up. You don’t have to be gay. There are good people with dicks out there, you’ve just got to find them. You’ve got to find a dick that’s not a dick, you know? I always thought I had to be gay because I thought all guys were evil, but it’s not true. There are good people out there that just happen to have dicks. I’ve only ever met one, and he’s on this Live.”

Obviously, this implies that being gay is a choice, and people are understandably upset. To quote one Twitter user, “Miley, this is so not it. Women don’t ‘have to be gay’ because they ‘can’t find a good person with a d*ck.’ Don’t use the queer community as a stop-gap because you couldn’t find a boyfriend. People aren’t queer because they ‘gave up’ on men. This is so insulting.”

As of now, Miley hasn’t commented on the backlash over her Instagram Live, but it’s still early.
