She's just being Miley!
We all know the video. As a part of her Happy Hippie Presents: Backyard Sessions project back in 2015, Miley Cyrus can be seen wearing a light blue unicorn onesie, sitting on an inflatable green loveseat with fellow pop star Ariana Grande, dressed in a gray mouse onesie, as they sing Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over.”
What starts as just a great cover by two great singers soon turns into something much cuter, when Cyrus starts to flirt with a flustered Grande, causing her to miss her singing cue.
Now, eight years later, Cyrus has opened up about the famous video, and what flirting with Grande was like.
“This is as serious as it can be, me and Ariana Grande performing in onesies in the backyard,” Cyrus said in a new TikTok looking back at the performance, which has over 114 million views on YouTube.
“I was flirting with her, and she was a little scared,” Cyrus admitted. “We were having fun. Ariana’s a real friend. There's never been a time where I’ve asked her to do something that was important to me that she didn’t come through, and same thing for me with her.”
“Are you a mouse, or a bear? Or? Whatever it is, you’re probably the cutest mouse-bear-thing I’ve ever seen,” Miley says in the video, causing Ariana to stumble over her words and miss her cue.
“Sorry, I was f*cking you up, I was riffing,” Cyrus smiled when Grande missed her cue. “Sorry. I was flirting. Sorry. I was flirting, sorry.”
After the two finish the song, Grande leaps into Cyrus’ arms and they share a hug. And the rest is history!
