Mike Johnson Discusses Hanging Out With Demi Lovato, Says There's "No Pressure"

Fans have been shipping Demi Lovato and Mike Johnson ever since the singer-songwriter professed her crush on the former Bachelorette contestant over Instagram. And while they’ve taken their online flirtation out into the real world, it seems as though the two celebs are taking things slow — at least for now.

While speaking with E! News, Mike explained that he doesn’t want any pressure on either of them as they explore their connection. “I’m just getting to know Demi,” he said, adding that the singer is “fantastic.” Despite seemingly keeping things relatively casual, Mike doesn’t appear to have eyes for any other women at the moment. When E! asked if the reality star was seeing anyone else, Mike replied: “No, it's just Demi. That's the only person I'm talking to.”

In another recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Mike confirmed that he and Demi went out on a date together. “The woman is quite astounding and amazing, and that's all I'll say on that,” he added.

Seeds of a romance were planted during Mike’s stint on Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette, when Demi quipped “Mike, I accept your rose” on her Instagram Story. Soon enough, the two were leaving each other flirty comments and liking one another’s selfies on social media, until they finally met up IRL following Mike’s appearance on Bachelor in Paradise.

Fans of the reality franchise had been vying for Mike to become the next Bachelor, which would have made him the show’s first black male lead. While some were disappointed when fellow Bachelorette contestant Peter Weber was announced as the upcoming Bachelor, others looked to Mike’s budding romance with Demi as a silver lining.

While Mike expressed to ET that Peter was a “good fit” for the lead role, he also believes that the show would benefit from more inclusivity. “…After 24 Bachelors, a black Bachelor should have been cast,” he said, adding that the franchise should expand their representation even further. “I think that there should be an Asian lead, an Indian lead... diversity is not just black and white. It's not just salt and pepper.” Still, Mike seems to have no hard feelings towards Peter or the franchise as a whole, adding: “They know what they're looking for. I wasn't the guy they were looking for at the moment.”

As for his relationship with Demi and whether or not they might team up on a double date with Gigi Hadid and Tyler Cameron, it seems as though that might be a fantasy (for now, at least). In an interview with US Weekly, Mike denied that the four celebs would be hanging out together anytime soon. “No. On my page, I said something about double-dating, but it wasn’t about Demi or Gigi,” he explained. “I think it was about me wanting to go to Magic Castle. People assumed it was about Demi and Gigi. It wasn’t.”

That said, Mike does have some advice for Gigi and Tyler: “Tyler and Gigi have been caught by the paparazzi. Demi and I have not,” he joked. “Maybe he needs to get tips from me.”
