Warning: Spoilers for Season 2 of Cobra Kai below.

While Seasons 1 and 2 of Cobra Kai were released on YouTube Premium in 2018 and 2019, the series' new home on Netflix has made way for a larger audience than ever to watch (and re-watch). A third season will hit the streaming service in 2021.

Cobra Kai is based on The Karate Kid film series, and it's set 34 years after the first film. Johnny Lawrence has decided to reopen the Cobra Kai karate dojo, and that leads to the rekindling of his old rivalry with Daniel LaRusso. William Zabka and Ralph Macchio both reprise their original roles, and they're joined by actors including Xolo Maridueña, Jacob Bertrand, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, and Courtney Henggeler.

Part of the reason fans are so eager for season 3 is because Season 2 ends with a major cliffhanger after a karate war between Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do erupts at school. It ends with Sam in the hospital and Miguel on life support after Robby kicks him and sends him flying down a flight of stairs. Here's what we know about what will happen to Miguel in the next season

Did Miguel die in Cobra Kai?

Although Miguel is severely injured, he seems to be alive, as Xolo Maridueña is returning to play him in season three.

The actor tweeted back in November about wrapping his work filming the upcoming season.

Back when the season was first released on YouTube, Cobra Kai's executive producers Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald sat down for a talk with Entertainment Weekly about the second season, including Miguel's fate.

"We can’t tell you specifically what’s going to be happening with Miguel next season. We can say that we’re hopeful that Xolo [Maridueña] returns to the series," Hurwitz teased. " It didn’t look good, what happened to him...Obviously, the character’s future hangs in the balance, and we’ll see where we go with that."

And while Heald did eventually confirm that Maridueña would be back for season three—"We can say that he’ll be back."—he didn't confirm in what capacity the young actor would return.

GameSpot also spoke with Maridueña, and he told the outlet that if Miguel recovers, he would want to him to stick with Johnny. "I think he really has his head in the right place and I love it," he explained. "So, personally, I would love for him to stay on that side, but I don't even know what they're gonna do for next season."
