You might see cars getting pulled out of the Ohio River this week. Here's why

Cars that have ended up in the Ohio River are getting fished out through a local law enforcement initiative.

Cincinnati Police Department and Hamilton County Police Association have partnered with Living Lands & Waters, an Illinois-based nonprofit aimed at improving the environment through river cleanups, tree plantings and other conservation efforts.

The six-day project is underway in hopes of finding stolen vehicles or other evidence that could lead to solving a cold case. That might mean pulling plate numbers to solve car thefts, or even finding human remains.

No human remains have been found along the 26-mile stretch of the Ohio River being examined. Ten cars have been found so far, but it will take a longer investigation to determine whether any of them were stolen, said Chris Fritsch, Hamilton County Police Association commander.

Crews have now done three days of work on Friday, Monday and Tuesday. It will continue through the end of this work week.
