Some Middle Tennessee school systems closing early ahead of severe weather threat

As severe weather again threatens Middle Tennessee with damaging winds and hail, some school systems are dismissing early.

Storms are expected to roll into Middle Tennessee around 2 p.m. and hit the Cumberland plateau by 1 a.m. Thursday with sustained, straight-line winds up to 60 mph. The Nashville Metro area will likely see rain starting around 5 p.m.

The western portion of the region, including Clarksville, Nashville, Williamson County and Columbia, are under an enhanced risk (level 3 of 5) for severe storms. The rest of the region is under a slight risk (level 2 of 5).

Robertson County was the first school to announce an early dismissal, noting that all after school activities are also cancelled for the evening.

Here's the schools dismissing early:

  • Cheatham County Schools: Closing at 1 p.m.

  • Dickson County Schools: Closing at 1 p.m.

  • Houston County Schools: Closing at 1 p.m.

  • Humphreys County Schools: Closing at 1 p.m.

  • Robertson County Schools: Closing two hours early, all after school events cancelled
