Michelle Williams Makes Red Carpet Debut With Fiancé Thomas Kail at 2020 Golden Globes

Michelle Williams walked the Golden Globes red carpet glowing—and it wasn't just because of her nomination for Fosse/Verdon. The Golden Globe winner made her first official debut with fiancé Thomas Kail on Sunday night. Their public outing comes a week after People broke news that she and Kail were engaged and expecting a baby together.

Williams wore an orange gown accented with a light blue shoulder detail. Kail, the Tony Award-winning director of Hamilton, directed the actress in the FX series for which she won an Emmy and is nominated for a Golden Globe. Although it seems that they met while working on the project, a People source says Williams's daughter Matilda, 14, (whom she shared with the late actor Heath Ledger) "played matchmaker" between the pair. The article also included a photo of the couple holding hands while shopping for baby clothes in London.

Williams also posed with her best friend Busy Phillips, her go-to red carpet date for many past award shows.

News of Williams' engagement comes after her April 2019 split from indie musician Phil Elverum after less than a year of marriage. In a September 2018 Vanity Fair profile Williams said after the tragic death of Ledger in 2008, "I never gave up on love." She added, “I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes.’”

Williams is next set to attend the Screen Actors Guild awards on January 19, where she's nominated for her performance as Gwen Verdon.
