Michelle Obama has sparked instantaneous praise for her outfit after arriving at the Biden-Harris inauguration ceremony in a purple suit and gold-detailed belt.

On Wednesday, the former first lady and her husband Barack Obama attended the inauguration for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

For the occasion, Ms Obama opted for raspberry-coloured pants and blouse and a matching ankle-length coat, reportedly designed by Black American designer Sergio Hudson, who also designed the outfit worn by Ms Harris on Inauguration Day.

Ms Obama, who kept her hair down and curled, accessorised the look with a raspberry belt, featuring an oversized gold buckle, black leather gloves and a black mask.

On social media, the look proved to be an immediate hit, with thousands praising the former first lady and fashion icon.

“First of all I’m living for Michelle Obama’s whole outfit,” one person tweeted.

Another said: “The real star is Michelle Obama with that outfit MY GOD!”

“The real question is where did First Lady Michelle Obama get her outfit and where can I get a discount version of it?” someone else tweeted.

Others attempted to go to the source directly, with one person tweeting at the former first lady and asking her to share details of her outfit.

This is not the first time the former first lady has worn an outfit by Hudson, a Black designer from South Carolina. In 2019, Ms Obama chose a blue sequined jumpsuit by Hudson for an appearance as the keynote speaker of the Essence Festival in New Orleans.
