Michelle Obama on How She Got Her Girls to Eat Vegetables

Every parent knows the pain and misery that is trying to get your children to eat their vegetables.

Thursday night, Michelle Obama visited “The Tonight Show” to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of the “Let’s Move” campaign and explained how she persuaded daughters Malia and Sasha to eat their veggies.

“It was basic: If you didn’t eat your vegetables, you can’t have a treat. If you said you were full, you can leave your food. But you can’t come back later and ask for more food,” the first lady said.

“So [after] a couple of days of starvation, then it’s like, ‘Give me that broccoli!’ They’re crawling to the dinner table. They’ll eat anything [after] three, four days of starvation!”

Obama was there to discuss a just-launched website designed to promote fruits and vegetables.

“It’s making vegetables and fruits fun. Fast food folks, candy, they market to kids. Now fruits and vegetables are marketing,” she explained. “It’s real funky, fun, it engages kids in a great way. So this is the next level to really help families make healthy chances.”

Mrs. Obama also took to the stage with Fallon to revamp their “Evolution of Mom Dancing” routine, which you can enjoy above.
