On October 3, the former first lady and president shared tributes to each other on Instagram in honor of their 28th wedding anniversary. “Even with everything going on, I wanted to take a moment to say happy anniversary to the love of my life,” Barack kicked things off alongside a sweet smiley picture. “Every day with @MichelleObama makes me a better husband, a better father, and a better human.
“This year, while we appreciate all your well-wishes, what we’d really love is for each of you to reach out to one person in your life who might not vote,” he continued. “Help them get registered. Help them make a plan to cast their ballot. Send them to iwillvote.com to get started. Happy anniversary, Miche. Love you.”
He called her Miche!!!
“28 years with this one. 💕,” Michelle posted just a minute later. “I love @BarackObama for his smile, his character, and his compassion. So grateful to have him as a partner through everything life throws at us."
She followed the sweet message up with the same request as her husband. “Pick one person in your life who might not vote and make sure they do,” she asked. “Tell us about it in the comments! That’s an anniversary message of the best kind. Love you, Barack. ❤️😘”
These two never fail to hit us right in the feels, but what's the secret to cultivating a loving marriage that's been thriving since 1992? Michelle recently shared some relationship advice on her podcast, the Michelle Obama Podcast.
“I think a man’s inclination to wait and to kind of go out there and search and get himself ready, I think is a good instinct that more young women should think about,” she said during a conversation with Conan O’Brien, comparing finding a partner to “picking your basketball team.”
“Because if you’re looking at a team, the people you want to win with, then number one, you want everybody on your team to be strong,” she said. “You don’t want any weak links. You don’t want somebody that you can dominate…. If we looked at marriage as a real team, you want your teammate to be a winner. You want LeBron, you know?”
It's clear Michelle and Barack Obama both found their LeBron.
