Justise Winslow to miss rest of season after suffering hip injury in Florida

Justise Winslow will have to wait even longer to make his debut with the Memphis Grizzlies

Winslow fell during practice on Monday after “absorbing contact” during a team scrimmage and landed on his hip. The injury, both Winslow and the team announced, will keep him out of the rest of the season when play resumes later this month at Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida.

“Last night during a scrimmage, I experienced a contact injury in my hip that unfortunately will keep me out until next season,” Winslow wrote on Twitter. “I was excited to join my brothers on the court and will be supporting them throughout. I’m focused on coming back 100 percent towards a full recovery.”

Specifics surrounding his injury are not clear, however he is expected to make a full recovery.

Winslow landed in Memphis from the Miami Heat as part of a three-team trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves in February. The deal sent Andre Iguodala to the Heat along with Jae Crowder and Solomon Hill, while Miami sent Dion Waiters with Winslow to Memphis, though Memphis immediately released him.

The 24-year-old appeared in just 11 games for Miami this season, averaging 11.3 points and 6.6 rebounds, while dealing with a back injury. Winslow — who was selected by Miami with the No. 10 overall pick in 2015 — averaged 12.6 points and 5.4 rebounds last season with the Heat.

The Grizzlies will resume play in Florida next week with a 32-33 record, the eighth-best and 3.5 games ahead of the rest of the teams competing in the Western Conference.
