Memorial tree honoring CU Boulder student vandalized

Apr. 21—The University of Colorado Boulder Police Department is seeking information that can help determine who is responsible for vandalizing a memorial tree in recent days on the Boulder campus.

Any witnesses or people with information are asked to come forward, after a tree honoring the life of the late student Trevor Louis Berry was damaged, just after the second anniversary of his death.

An online obituary states that Berry died April 18, 2021. He was a freshman at CU Boulder, studying history.

Police said the vandalism took place between Tuesday and Friday. The tree is situated near the southwest corner of Varsity Pond on the CU Boulder campus. There are no leads at this time.

Family and friends of Berry hope someone will provide information as they seek closure and comfort, according to a release from the department late Friday.

Those with information in what's being termed a criminal mischief case, can call the CUPD non-emergency line at 303-492-6666 and reference case #2023-0765.
