Members of royal family noticeably absent from Easter church service: Who wasn't there and why?

The British royal family stepped out on Sunday for an Easter church service at Windsor Castle -- the same venue that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will get married in on May 19 -- though several key members of the family were absent for the celebration.

Queen Elizabeth was joined at St. George's Chapel by Prince William and Kate Middleton, while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were absent, as they had "private plans elsewhere," People reports. Also not there were Prince George and Princess Charlotte, who also did not attend last year's Easter service.

Most notably absent, though, was Prince Philip. The 96-year-old Duke of Edinburgh did not accompany his family to the Easter services, as he normally would have, presumably because of the hip problems he has been experiencing as of late.

Sunday's outing was the second high-profile royal event that Philip has missed just this week, as he also dropped out of appearing at Thursday's Maundy service alongside his wife because he was having "trouble with his hip." Despite retiring from official royal duties last year, Philip had still been expected to be a presence at major occasions such as these, and he's reportedly still hoping to attend Harry and Meghan's wedding next month.

Also in attendance on Sunday were Prince Andrew and his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, who brought along fiancé Jack Brooksbank.

Middleton wore a dark jacket and matching hat that covered up her baby bump. The outing on Sunday is expected to be her last public sighting until she welcomes her third child, due later this month.

Queen Elizabeth donned a bright pink jacket and matching hat over a floral dress.

The queen, William and Kate spoke to two 6-year-old girls who work at Windsor Castle and told them that George and Charlotte had participated in an Easter egg hunt that morning.
