Welcome to Summer Fridays! We know you work hard. So Teen Vogue is celebrating the end of each week — all summer long — with custom playlists created by artists you know and love.
Melii is having a lively summer — and shared as much when she called from a yacht in Miami, while it poured in her native NYC. She kicked off the season on the Summer Jam Festival Stage, has been steadily working on new music, and at the top of the month released a visual for “Slow For Me” from her debut album, Phases.
According to a recent Instagram post, her next EP, Motions, is on the way along with more music videos. No official details on the EP yet but when we spoke last month, she did mention that she plans to release a “tape with all rap records on it...because I know my fans miss me rapping.” Crossing our fingers that this is the one.
This weekend the 21-year-old rapper, singer and songwriter will complete another important milestone, as she takes the stage at Made in America. “It has that stamp, like ‘okay you’re an official artist’ if you’re performing there,” she tells Teen Vogue.
As summer winds down, she made a Summer Fridays playlist fit for the transition. It’s a mix that allows you to both cry, because it’s (almost) over and smile because it happened. Melii includes melancholy classics “Chanel” and “All I Want Is You” as well as Megan Thee Stallion's upbeat, viral video-inspired "Hood Rat Sh*t." The collection of songs is a helpful tool, beyond new clothes and school supplies, to gear up for your Hot Girl Semester. Listen in.
