Melania Trump Wore a Jacket That Said “I Really Don’t Care Do U” to Visit Detained Immigrant Children

The message is literally spelled out for us.

On June 21, Melania Trump was spotted wearing a khaki green Zara jacket as she arrived at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. Printed on the back of the jacket were the words, “I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?” It's not exactly the heartwarming message a nation wants to hear from its First Lady, especially as she’s about to board a plane to visit detained immigrant children in Texas.

Although Melania did a mid-flight wardrobe swap and exited the plane wearing a cream-colored jacket, word had already gotten out about her earlier style choice. Needless to say, people were less than thrilled.

According to the First Lady’s spokesperson Stephanie Grisham, the jacket had “no hidden message,” which is fair, considering the message is clearly written in plain sight.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Melania has stirred controversy with her ensembles. There were the infamous stiletto heels that she wore when visiting a hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico, and the $1,400 Balmain plaid shirt that she donned while gardening with children at the White House. She’s also sported a $3,000 Valentino coat during a visit to a Michigan middle school.

Without a doubt, Melania loves her high-end labels, which makes it a little curious that she would wear this jacket from a fast fashion giant like Zara. Her approach to fashion is a definite departure from former First Lady Michelle Obama, who not only tried to wear mostly American designers but who also frequently reached for affordable options such as J.Crew and Target.

While it’s not completely clear that this was a deliberate message from Melania to the American public, it was definitely done in poor taste. And if her track record with tone-deaf wardrobe picks is any indication, this probably won’t be the last time she makes a questionable fashion decision.
