Melania Trump wore a tuxedo — and Twitter thinks she stole the look from Hope Hicks

First lady Melania Trump has continued to make her own statements of sartorial diplomacy in France this weekend, during a visit to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. She attended a dinner on Saturday night in a tuxedo by French label Dior, and she wore the designer again on Sunday.

Though President Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron appeared to be at odds over issues of nationalism and NATO support, FLOTUS could be sending a message of outreach. Or she just really liked that tux look.

Some on social media said the look reminded them of one Hope Hicks previously stepped out in.

The Trumps stirred controversy by canceling their appearance at a memorial at Aisne-Marne American Cemetery outside of Paris on Saturday afternoon because of rain, though other leaders were able to attend. But by the evening, they made it to a dinner at the Musee d’Orsay, along with other world leaders and their spouses.

While some women at the event opted for evening gowns, Melania made the bold choice to wear a long-tailed jacket with a white tuxedo shirt, which coordinated with her husband’s black jacket and white shirt. The look recalled the first lady’s Givenchy tuxedo cape, which she wore when the Macrons visited the United States in April.

Interestingly, French first lady Brigitte Macron also coordinated with her husband, wearing a blue suit that perfectly matched the hue of the French president’s.

On Sunday, when the world leaders again gathered at a the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, Melania was back in Dior. This time, she wore a solemn belted gray dress, with a pleated skirt and a so-called ρussy bow.

Though President Macron seemingly took aim at Trump in a speech denouncing nationalism as a selfish “betrayal” of patriotism, the two first ladies appeared to be friendly at Sunday’s events, posing for photos and walking together during a luncheon.
