Melania Trump wore a white sundress and bright pink stilettos for the Fourth of July’s “Salute to America” celebration at the Lincoln Memorial.

In the late afternoon, the first couple appeared at the “Salute to America” event at the Lincoln Memorial — which the president had promised to be “The show of a lifetime” — looking thrilled. The first lady wore a Carolina Herrera white dress with multi-colored stripes and asymmetrical sleeves, along with fuchsia heels.

"As we gather this evening, in the joy of freedom, we remember that all share a truly extraordinary heritage. Together we are part of one of the greatest stories ever told, the story of America," President Trump said.

Earlier, the administration kicked off the holiday with a National Independence Day Parade on Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C., and a speech from Vice-President Mike Pence at the National Archives to welcome 44 new U.S. citizens from 24 countries, according to CBS News.

“Salute to America” has been a delicate topic, due to its bells and whistles: military jets, a 21-gun salute, and a fireworks show, and the White House has reportedly refused to share the costs of the ceremony. However, according to CBS News, $2.5M of taxpayer money initially dedicated to the National Park Service, will help pay for the show.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee told ABC News, "This whole event is a monument to his insecurity. And I think it's very unfortunate that a nation that prides itself on democracy and unifying messages has to be exposed to his insecurity that he's trying to cover up with tanks, and it just doesn't work."

According to a report from Politico, the administration had stressed out over RSVPs. “They started this too late and everyone has plans already,” Republican donor Dan Eberhart told the website. “Everyone will be there in spirit, but in reality, people planned their July 4th activities weeks ago.”

“They are creating this thing from scratch, and I do not know if anyone knows how it will go off,” a White House aide told Politico. “There are questions about the ticket distribution and who will show up. The weather might be bad. Heads are spinning.”

The president’s children were not present on Thursday — Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner celebrated in the Hamptons in Long Island, N.Y., along with Donald Trump Jr., and Kimberly Guilfoyle, who recently purchased a $4.4M home in the posh area.
