Melania Trump's Yellow J. Mendel Gown Gets Meme'd on Social Media

The internet is undefeated.

On this week's episode of who wore it best, social media has decided to take on the yellow J. Mendel dress Melania Trump wore during the first family's first official visit to London last week. The long chiffon gown was paired against several worthy opponents, which included yellow curtains, corn, and other yellow house hold objects featured in dozens of memes posted on Twitter.

Prior to debuting the dress in London, there was already heavy controversy surrounding Melania and Donald Trump's visit to the U.K., and later, Finland. Protests were even staged in London in anticipation of their visit. The apparent disdain for their arrival did not stop social media from making light of their time there, and most notably Melania's dress. Some of the most hilarious observations of the gown was its likeness to the yellow dress Belle wore in Beauty and the Beast. Social media users pointed out this similarity and assigned Trump the role of the "beast".

The memes were fueled even more after Teen Vogue responded to a Twitter user Sunday evening, who mentioned the publication while praising an image of Melania in the dress. The user suggested Teen Vogue should "aspire" to be more like Melania. The publication retweeted the comment with the caption, "oh absolutely not." This immediately set off a fire storm of tweets featuring memes of Melania next to yellow objects.

Some users even took the opportunity under Teen Vogue's thread to promote a few women they thought were more worthy of aspiration than Melania. Tennis star Serena Williams, Judge Justice Ruth Bader, and the first black female astronaut, Mae Carol Jemison, were among the several women that were suggested.

We can't say we disagree.
