Meghan Markle has always been one to make a sartorial statement. The Duchess gravitates toward brands that have a charitable angle—whether it's jeans from Outland Denim or sustainable sneakers from Veja. And in her latest social media post, the Duchess has once again made a meaningful fashion choice.
Prince Harry and Meghan's official Instagram account recently posted a slideshow celebrating World Elephant Day. It featured photos from Harry and Meghan's 2017 trip to Botswana, when they spend a day aiding local elephant conservation efforts.
In one image, Meghan can be seen holding an elephant's trunk—and sporting a very particular type of jewelry. In addition to her Kismet by Milka ring (already known to be a staple in the Duchess's wardrobe), she's wearing an elephant hair bracelet. Traditional versions of the style featured actual elephant hair—and although they're now made of silver wire and other materials, they still hold symbolic meaning.
According to Hello, the bracelets are believed to bring good luck, health, and prosperity to those who wear them. Coupled with Meghan's ring—which features a Hamsa design, after the age-old talisman—the royal should be very well-protected.
Of course, Meghan was wearing the elephant hair bracelet while meeting and caring for actual elephants. In this context, the Duchess was perhaps more concerned with channeling her support for elephant conservation efforts than an interest in her own good luck—although there's no reason why she shouldn't pursue both.
