Meghan Markle Is Watching Prince Philip's Funeral From Home in California

While Prince Harry will be in Windsor this morning to say a final goodbye to his grandfather Prince Philip, Meghan will not be by his side. Instead, she will be watching her late grandfather-in-law's funeral services from home in California.

Town & Country understands that the Duchess of Sussex made efforts to travel with Prince Harry to the UK, but she did not receive medical clearance from her doctor. Meghan is currently pregnant with her second child. During the Sussexes' interview with Oprah earlier this spring, the couple confirmed they are expecting a girl, and Megan is due sometime this summer.

According to People magazine, the Queen is said to "understand" why Meghan can't be there today. "It was always a given that Harry would return to England for his grandfather's passing," a California-based source told the publication. "Meghan expressed condolences. The Queen understands why she can't travel at the moment."

Meghan will be represented symbolically at the ceremony via a floral wreath laid for the Duke of Edinburgh, and an accompanying card, which was handwritten by the Duchess.

Earlier this week, the Duke of Sussex shared a statement paying tribute to his grandfather in which he said: “My grandfather was a man of service, honour and great humour. He was authentically himself, with a seriously sharp wit, and could hold the attention of any room due to his charm—and also because you never knew what he might say next.”

Harry also referenced Meghan, his son Archie, and his soon-to-arrive baby girl, saying: “You will be sorely missed, but always remembered—by the nation and the world. Meghan, Archie, and I (as well as your future great-granddaughter) will always hold a special place for you in our hearts.”
