Meghan Markle, she of Suits fame and a steadfast nature, just took a step away from becoming the next Gwyneth Paltrow and one toward becoming the next British royal.
The actress announced she is shutting down her lifestyle Web site, The Tig, after three years of operation. As of now, The Tig home page consists only of a farewell note surrounded by Instagrams of Markle and her lifestyle.
The note reads in full:
To all my Tig friends,
After close to three beautiful years on this adventure with you, it's time to say goodbye to The Tig. What began as a passion project (my little engine that could) evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun and frivolity. You've made my days brighter and filled this experience with so much joy. Keep finding those Tig moments of discovery, keep laughing and taking risks, and keep being “the change you wish to see in the world.”
Above all, don’t ever forget your worth—as I’ve told you time and time again: you, my sweet friend, you are enough.
Thank you for everything.
Markle wrote a personal message to followers on Instagram as well.
Marriage hawks, who have been ringing the wedding bells since she and Prince Harry were just wearing matching bracelets and showing up in Canada at the same time, should be pleased. Though shutting down The Tig certainly doesn’t mean a proposal is on the way, Markle could probably use a breather in her packed life. She wrote about balancing her charitable and celebrity commitments in an Elle U.K. essay, saying, “While my life shifts from refugee camps to red carpets, I choose them both because these worlds can, in fact, co-exist. And for me, they must.” With a schedule that full, adding one thing means taking something else away, and being associated with one of the most scrutinized people on planet Earth is not nothing.
No longer producing content as an editor-in-chief of a site that's considered an extension of one's self could be a form of self-preservation. Markle has curbed her personal social media output since the news broke that she and Prince Harry were dating, so royal watchers turned to The Tig to glean clues about next moves. The account recently posted an inspirational quote about adding "a little confetti to each day," and that was twisted into a clue that a wedding is on the horizon.
Regardless of the why of it all, imagine trying to explain the concept of a “lifestyle Web site” to the Queen.
