Not even duchesses are immune to the inevitable makeup smudge.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex experienced the minor beauty mishap yesterday while greeting fans and well-wishers during an engagement at Westminster Abbey. As she met D-Day veteran William Allen, she gave him a hug and kiss, which resulted in her leaving a light makeup mark on the shoulder of his dark jacket.

Allen, who turns 100 next month, didn't seem to be bothered at all. "I’m never washing that!" he said, according to royal correspondent Rebecca English of Daily Mail.

Despite Meghan's lighthearted interaction with Allen, the nature of her event yesterday was somber. She and Prince Harry were attending a service at the Field of Remembrance ahead of Remembrance Day, which lands on November 11 and honors veterans and military servicemembers.

The royal family is attending a number of events this week commemorating army personnel and vets. The day before stopping by Westminster Abbey, Harry and Meghan quietly surprised military families in Windsor.

During the private event, the Duke of Sussex, who was in the army for 10 years, reportedly talked to relatives of servicemembers about what it's like serving in the armed forces while having a young child at home.

"I have so much respect and admiration for anyone who has to deal with that,” he said. “I can’t imagine what it’s like to miss so much as they change so quickly."
