Meghan Markle Reportedly Spoke With the Queen to Express Her Sympathies About Prince Philip

Meghan Markle is not at Prince Philip’s funeral in England due to doctors advising her to stay home—but she has spoken to the Queen to express her sympathies.

An Us Weekly source reiterated Buckingham Palace’s update that the Duchess of Sussex was advised by her physician not to travel, saying the reason Meghan is not at Prince Philip’s funeral is that “Meghan will be staying in California. She can’t go on doctor’s orders. She is too far along to fly and it’s recommended she rest in the final months.”

The source also confirms that “Meghan and Harry have already spoken to the Queen to express their sympathies.” The couple also honored Philip through their Archewell website, writing, “In loving memory of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh 1921–2021. Thank you for your service…you will be greatly missed.”

Harry arrived in England on Sunday and it is expected that he quarantined ahead of his grandfather’s funeral. This is the first time he’s seeing his family in more than a year and the first time they’ll be together since the Sussexes’ bombshell interview with Oprah.

While the palace confirmed that Prince Philip’s funeral service is “much reduced in scale with no public access,” part of the ceremonial funeral was still broadcast.

A palace spokesman said, “While this is naturally a time of sadness and mourning for the royal family and the many others who knew and admired the Duke of Edinburgh, it is hoped that the coming days will also be seen as an opportunity to celebrate a remarkable life: remarkable both in terms of his vast contribution and lasting legacy.”
