Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are at Trooping the Colour. Here's Why They Haven't Been Photographed

The Queen's birthday parade, Trooping the Colour, is ongoing in London this morning, and so far, photos have come out of Kate Middleton and her and Prince William's three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis in the carriage procession. The family of five will join the Queen on the balcony for the flypast shortly.

Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and their two children Archie and Lilibet are also in London; the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are confirmed to be attending Trooping the Colour. So where are they, and why weren't they in the carriage procession or on the balcony?

Yesterday, the Royal Family announced that Meghan and Harry will be at the Major General's Office watching the parade with other members of the royal family. Kate would be there with them too. No photos have been released of the family watching in there—at least not yet. It's possible the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could release their own photos later as well, showcasing their outfits and experience at Trooping the Colour. But Meghan and Harry are not part of public-facing parts of the parade, so their not being photographed the same way Kate, William, and the Cambridge kids have is to be expected.

Buckingham Palace announced last month that Meghan, Harry, and other non-working royal members were not invited to join the Queen on the balcony this year, eliminating one major public appearance the Sussexes could've had. A palace spokesperson said early last month of the decision, “After careful consideration, the Queen has decided that this year’s traditional Trooping the Colour balcony appearance on Thursday 2nd of June will be limited to Her Majesty and those members of the Royal Family who are currently undertaking official public duties on behalf of the Queen.” Meghan and Harry stepped back from their senior royal family roles in 2020.

Harry and Meghan arrived in London yesterday with their children. The family is staying at their Frogmore Cottage home in Windsor. TMZ reports the family has been given police protection for royal events and while staying at their residence.
