Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Have Officially Given Up Their Royal Titles

After nearly two weeks of negotiations, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have officially reached an agreement with Queen Elizabeth and will no longer serve as senior members of the royal family.

On Saturday afternoon, the Sussexes took to Instagram to inform fans of the exciting news, and posted a formal statement from Her Majesty. "Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family," the Queen began her letter to the public, adding that "Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much loved members of my family."

She continued, acknowledging the brutal criticism Meghan has faced since joining the monarchy. "I recognize the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life."

"I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family," the Queen said. "It's my whole family's hope that today's agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful and new life."

As Meghan and Harry will finally be relieved of their royal duties in spring 2020, they will no longer use the titles "royal highness," according to a statement from Buckingham Palace. "The Sussexes will not user their HRH titles as they are no longer part of working members of the Royal Family," the announcement read.

It's also revealed that the couple will no longer receive public funding and plan to repay approximately $3.1 million of taxpayer funds, which were used to renovate their UK residence, Frogmore Cottage. In the midst of Meghan and Harry's absence, it's reported the home's staff is already being reassigned.

"In quiet periods staff are often redeployed elsewhere around the estate," the source told CNN. "No members of staff have been let go."
