Baby Archie is officially Toddler Archie! Or, OK, if we're really getting "official," Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.
Anyway, the 2-year-old's proud parents, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, shared a message to the Archewell website on Thursday to both commemorate the milestone with a charitable call to action and thank fans for their love. The couple also took the opportunity to debut a new photo of Archie. In the snapshot, he's shown from behind and holding a huge bouquet of balloons while wearing a sweater and tiny toddler Nike sneakers. The photo has a sepia-tone filter and gave fans a peek at Archie's curly hair.
"We have been deeply touched over the past two years to feel the warmth and support for our family in honor of Archie's birthday," the statement from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex began. "Many of you donate to charities on his behalf, and mark the occasion by giving back or doing an act of service — all through the goodness of your hearts. You raise funds for those who need it most, and continue to do so organically and selflessly. We remain incredibly grateful."
The statement went on to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic and the vaccine distribution: "As of today, around 80 percent of the nearly one billion COVID-19 vaccine shots that have been given were administered in wealthier countries." Given the need, the Sussexes asked fans to contribute what they could to the vaccine equity effort, noting that because several organizations had agree to match donations, contributions would be multiplied by four. You can donate here.
"We cannot think of a more resonant way to honor our son's birthday," the couple wrote. "If we all show up, with compassion for those we both know and don't know, we can have a profound impact. Even a small contribution can have a ripple effect."
Here's hoping Archie is enjoying a lovely California day, complete with his royal waffle maker.
