On Saturday, the world got to witness the much-hyped — and actually groundbreaking — royal wedding of Prince Harry to American actress and activist Meghan Markle. If Harry was Prince Charming for the wedding, then he definitely became James Bond for the couple’s reception.
After changing from their formal wedding attire into stylish, party-ready outfits, the couple headed over to their reception. Harry, wearing a tux, personally drove his new bride in an E-Type Jaguar, as they made their way to celebrate with friends and family.
While Britain’s royal family is known for their considerably stuffy and dated traditions, Harry and Meghan are being hailed as the royal couple to really bring the English monarchy into a more progressive, modern era.
The song, which is fun and upbeat, felt like a perfect fit for the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex. At Meghan's request, 60's soul classics like "My Girl," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," and "Soul Man" were played throughout the night by cover band Atlantic Soul Orchestra.
The couple’s wedding reception was hosted by Prince Charles and held at Frogmore House in Windsor Great Park. The festivities began at 7:00 p.m. and guests were reported to still be leaving after midnight.
Although there were 600 attendees at the wedding, the reception was much smaller and included close friends and family of Meghan and Harry. Big-name celebrities like George and Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, James Corden, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Elton John were there to party the night away with the newlyweds.
The estate may be over 200-years-old, but the atmosphere there was anything but dull, especially as it got later into the night. It’s reported that once the elder royals left, that’s when the party kicked into high-gear. In addition to some fun toasts from friends of Prince Harry, guests were treated to a DJ stint from Idris Elba, jokes from comedian James Corden, and none other than Serena Williams playing in what had to be the most epic game of beer pong ever. The carnival-themed party also included outdoor games, as well as burger and ice cream vans.
Considering the royalty and Hollywood elite in attendance at the reception, security was also extra-tight. Even George and Amal Clooney were reportedly questioned for several minutes before being allowed inside.
The bride herself even gave a speech in which she thanked Harry and his family for their hospitality and kindness. Harry, moved by Meghan's gesture, also gave an impromptu speech praising Meghan and sharing his excitement to spend their lives together.
Following their wedding reception, Meghan and Harry later went on to spend the night at Windsor Castle.
