  • Meghan Markle opened up about what it felt like being the “most trolled person in the entire world” in 2019.

  • Meghan appeared on the Teenager Therapy podcast, posted in honor of World Mental Health Day on Saturday, October 10.

Meghan Markle isn’t shying away from the dark side of being in the public eye. She and Prince Harry recently appeared on the Teenage Therapy podcast, hosted by five seniors at a California high school. The episode was posted in honor of World Mental Health Day on Saturday, October 10.

Meghan said that social media is “a great way to connect, but it also ends up being a place where there’s a lot of disconnection.” She added, “I can speak personally too. I’m told that in 2019, I was the most trolled person in the entire world, male or female.” At the time, she was pregnant with Archie but still receiving a lot of hate online. “Now, eight months of that I wasn’t even visible—I was on maternity leave or with a baby,” she explained. “But what was able to just be manufactured and churned out, it’s almost unsurvivable.”

She continued, “That’s so big, you can’t even think of what that feels like. I don’t care if you’re 15 or you’re 25, if people are saying things about you that aren’t true, what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging. Even though our experience is unique to us and obviously can seem very different to what people can experience on the day-to-day, it’s still a human experience—and that’s universal. We all know what it feels like to have our feelings hurt, we all know what it feels like to be isolated or othered.”

While on a royal tour in Africa, Meghan opened up about how she was handling public scrutiny in an interview for the Harry & Meghan: An African Journey documentary. She said that not many people checked on her emotional well-being after she had Archie. “I was tired,” Meghan explained about her comment in last year’s doc. “I was just about to give Archie a bath. I was exhausted.”

Harry added, “She was still breastfeeding at the time,” and Meghan said that “between every official engagement, I was running back to make sure our son was fed.”
