Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton Made a Compelling Case for Matching Outfits

Since making her debut as the next royal-adjacent-to-be, Meghan Markle has made headlines both for her fresh approach to fashion and her habit of breaking royal protocol. Hair meant to be primly tied back? She'll wear a messy bun instead. Formal appearance with Prince Harry? She'll wear a simple white coat and get it named after her. For her first official appearance with Queen Elizabeth, however, Markle took safer, but still chic, approach to dressing—maybe with Kate Middleton's help.

For today's Commonwealth Day Services in England, Markle put her usual rule-breaking ways on hold in favor of coordinating navy and cream outfits with Middleton. Matching may have been a faux pas in the past, but the two women looked impeccably polished in navy sheath dresses and matching heels. (Finishing each look with differently-colored coats and two distinct hats certainly helped.) Still, we have to wonder: Have the pair been sneaking off for some shopping together after their public speaking engagements? Do they share a cart on Farfetch? Decide for yourself after looking at their coordinating outfits.

To the untrained eye, Markle and Middleton could be full-blown twinning beneath their differently-colored coats. Instead, they opted for different designers to put together their exact looks. For starters, Kate went for a coat and dress from Beluah London, and a hat by Lock & Co.

Markle, meanwhile, chose a dress and coat by Amanda Wakeley. She topped her look with a white beret by Stephen Jones.

The matchy-matchy looks didn't stop at their dresses: Both women went for classic pointy-toe pumps in a deep blue suede. While some were quick to notice that Markle and Middleton's pumps looked very similar, they weren't actually wearing identical shoes. According to Hello!, Meghan's shoes are by Manolo Blahnik, while Kate Middleton opted for a pair of Rupert Sanderson pumps.

Coordinating outfits aren't anything new to the royal family's wardrobe, though we usually notice that a few years after the fact. Kate Middleton has worn her fair share of outfits that remind onlookers of Princess Diana's style. With today's nearly-identical outfits, we can all but confirm that Markle's been using her disguises to hit the mall with Middleton. Can we get an invite next time?
