Meghan Markle Admits the Intense Media Coverage Is a Struggle: “Not Many People Have Asked If I’m Okay”
In an emotional confession, Meghan Markle admitted that she has struggled with the media attention—and often scrutiny—that she has faced as a royal, especially while pregnant with her first child.
During an interview with ITV for their documentary, Harry and Meghan: An African Journey, the reporter Tom Bradby asked the Duchess of Sussex if the spotlight’s glare had taken any toll on her physical or mental health. After a noticeable pause, Meghan Markle opened up:
“Any woman, especially when they’re pregnant—you’re really vulnerable. So that was made really challenging. And then when you have a newborn, you know?” she said. “Thank you for asking because not many people have asked if I’m okay,” she continued. “It’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”
When Bradby asked if it would be fair to say it’s been a struggle, she simply replied: “Yes.”
Currently the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are involved multiple lawsuits against the British press. Markle is seeking legal action against the Mail on Sunday for the alleged unlawful publication of a private letter that she sent to her father, Thomas Markle.
In a passionate public statement, Prince Harry lambasted the press for their treatment of his wife. “Unfortunately, my wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences—a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy, and while raising our newborn son.”
