Behold: a queen who takes ownership over her own genius.

It’s no surprise that thanks to the growing popularity of Megan Thee Stallion and her latest EP release Fever, that 2019 will go down as the year of the hot girl summer.

Megan’s signature catchphrase has become inescapable over the past few weeks — being used in social media captions, media think pieces, and even by other celebrities. It’s become so popular that Megan is officially in the process of trademarking the phrase, according to Billboard.

Sources confirm that the request to trademark the saying was filed July 10 by the Houston rapper and, if approved, will be used for upcoming merchandise such as hoodies, shirts, and athleisure apparel. When a fan reached out to Megan saying they hoped she was going to trademark the wildly popular phrase, Megan responded that she’s “been in the process.”

While dozens of different outlets have pushed out articles trying to dissect the true meaning of “hot girl summer” and why it’s become the cultural mantra of the moment, Megan was able to lay out the definition via a single tweet.

“Being a Hot Girl is about being unapologetically YOU,” Megan tweeted out. “Having fun, being confident, living YOUR truth [and] being the life of the party.”

Truly a talented queen with agency over her impact.
