Megan Fox has shared a passionate response to a US politician who accused her of forcing her sons to "wear girls' clothing".

Taking to Instagram, Fox – who shares three children with her ex-husband, Brian Austin Green – shared a screenshot of Robby Starbuck's tweet. In it, Starbuck said that the actor had "forced" her sons to "wear girls' clothes", which he alleged is "pure child abuse".

In response, Fox fiercely shut down the claim, writing on Instagram: "Hey @robbystarbuck I really don’t want to give you this attention because clearly you’re a clout chaser. But let me teach you something."

She went on, "Irregardless of how desperate you may become at any given time to acquire wealth, power, success, or fame – never use children as leverage or social currency. Especially under malevolent and erroneous pretence."

"Exploiting my child’s gender identity to gain attention in your political campaign has put you on the wrong side of the universe," Fox added, before describing the politician as "insecure" and "narcissistic".

Fox's response was well received by fans, who flooded the comments section with praise and support. "Let kids express themselves however they want. If you can’t support your kids’ self expression, consider not having kids," one person commented, as someone else wrote: "Literally don’t understand why people have an issue with allowing your child to be happy."

A third person chimed in with: "You and your beautiful kids are so loved, guided and protected. The world is still catching up and the new wave of kids coming onto the planet have so much to teach the world about love and self-expression. Thank you for being a fierce stand for them feeling safe to be who they are."

Elsewhere, Fox's former partner Green – with whom she shares 10-year-old Noah, nine-year-old Bodhi and six-year-old Journey – also waded into the argument, telling TMZ that the claims are "bogus".

"This person trying to claim this is true is a perfect example of someone with selfish motives that does not care about negatively affecting a parent-child relationship," he said of Starbuck.

Previously speaking about her children's love of fashion, Fox said on The Talk in 2019 that Noah in particular is "really into fashion".

"He'll dress himself and he likes to wear dresses, sometimes," she said. "And I send him to a really liberal, like hippy school. But even there, here in California, he still has little boys going like, 'Boys don’t wear dresses', or 'Boys don’t wear pink'."

Despite this, Fox emphasised that she teaches her kids "to be confident no matter what anyone else says."
