Netflix's latest hit series, Shadow and Bone, is finally here and if you’re diving into the Grishaverse for the first time, you definitely have some catching up to do with the characters. While book fans certainly have an advantage, the cast is filled with new faces in addition to their old favorites. So who can we expect to see in Shadow and Bone? And who is playing them?

Here's everything you need to know about the cast and characters of Shadow and Bone.

Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov

"When we first meet her, Alina doesn't know who she is. She has had to hide herself away from the world and has gotten into this very comfortable state of she knows that Mall is her safety and her home. As a child, she's strong and feisty. But, over the years, that's been sort of pushed down a little bit," Jessie Mei Li told Seventeen. "She's been made to feel at such an outsider. It takes a while to find exactly what it is that she wants and what she needs. She has a sense of humor as well. She looks at the world and sees it for how ridiculous it is. She's complicated and she's got flaws and that's why I like her a lot."

Jessie Mei Li is set to appear in the highly anticipated film, Last Night in Soho, as Lara.

Ben Barnes as General Kirigan / The Darkling

"General Korean is the most powerful Grisha. In the hierarchy, he is the leader of the Second Army, the sort of magical military elite. He's a character who you instantly come to understand is revered by many people that are surrounded him, but also feared by some," Ben noted. "He is somebody who is attempting to employ the politics of fear to protect his people, and to sort of safeguard them against the war that's raging on. He is a sort of enigmatic, slightly mysterious, isolated, lonely, brooding figure as we come to meet him at the beginning."

Ben Barnes is known for his roles Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia series, Logan Delos in Westworld, and Billy Russo in The Punisher.

Archie Renaux as Malyen "Mal" Oretsev

"Mal is a juggernaut in the sense that he will just keep on going and not give up anything for people he loves and cares about," Archie revealed. "And I think that speaks volumes, especially considering that in the world that he exists in, and in the story, he's up against these characters that have all these powers or gimmicks. Meanwhile, he just has his heart and his courage. I think that speaks volumes."

Archie recently starred in the hit film Voyagers and is set to appear in the upcoming Marvel/Sony film Morbius.

Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker

In Leigh Bardugo's words, 'He's a sociopath with a heart.' I thought was pretty perfect. He's this rising star of the criminal underworld and whose got a thirst for vengeance," Freddy said. "But also, there's a softer side to him, which maybe we see a little bit of throughout the season."

Freddy has appeared in a number of television series including Netflix's Free Rein and Epix's Pennyworth.

Amita Suman as Inej Ghafa

"Inej is an assassin with a conscious. She has very strong moral values, yet she is very lethal and dangerous. She's someone that gets underestimated quite a bit and that's a huge mistake that her enemies make," Amita revealed.

Amita has previously appeared in British TV shows such as Doctor Who and The CW series The Outpost.

Kit Young as Jesper Fahey

"Let's call him the left hand man of Kaz Brekker. He's not quite focused enough to be his right hand man. He's a gunslinger, a gambler, and a sharpshooter working in Ketterdam," Kit said. "He's a third part of this trio and is the one who likes to have all the fun, while the other two are quite serious."

Kit is a prolific stage actor with credits including Octavius in Julius Cesar and Lysander in A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Bride Theater in London. He is set to star in the upcoming adaptation of The School for Good and Evil as Rafal.
