McDonald’s All-Day Breakfast Might Not Ever Come Back To Menus
McDonald's stopped serving All-Day Breakfast at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic coming to the United States as a way to streamline operations as many in the food industry figured out how best to navigate social distancing. But as a recent Business Insider report noted, the service has still not returned as of late September, leaving many to wonder if it ever will.
Customers have taken to social media to ask McDonald's when and if they'll be able to get breakfast favorites like Egg McMuffins and hash browns into the afternoon and evenings again. Unnamed employees even told BI that they've seen customers leave the drive-thru when they've realized they cannot order breakfast.
The chain has offered All-Day Breakfast nationally since 2015, but many franchisees and workers have been critical of the offering since the start, including in this most recent report, with one employee saying, "I absolutely do not think we should bring it back." Others have said in the past that it clogs up kitchen operations and causes people to spend less money than they would have on dinner offerings. In June, the National Owners Association, a group representing a majority of McDonald's franchise owners, voted to axe All-Day Breakfast for good.
When asked about the possible return—or end—of All Day Breakfast, McDonald's issued the following statement:
We removed All Day Breakfast from the menu to simplify operations in our kitchens, which we saw provided better speed of service and order accuracy. As McDonald’s and franchisees evaluate if and how we bring All Day Breakfast back to our menus, we want to ensure these improvements will remain consistent for our customers. Any final decision will be made in partnership with our franchisees, based on consumer demand, and designed to drive the business while minimizing operational disruptions.
McDonald's has recently brought back some items that it slashed to simplify menus in March, such as desserts like ice cream cones. They're also added things like the super-popular Travis Scott meal and Spicy Nuggets. While we don't yet know the fate of All-Day Breakfast, we'll be sure to update this post when, and if, we hear more.
