From Town & Country

While the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has certainly put a damper on international travel, it has allowed for a significant amount of daydreaming and wanderlust. Fine hotels and resorts the world over are the thing of fantasy right now, and high up on the list is The Mayfair Townhouse, which opens in London this week. Think: Oscar Wilde meets Alice in Wonderland at an iconic address.

Nestled on Half Moon Street (a locale with oodles of literary associations, the most famous of which is, of course, Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Ernest) the property boasts at impressive design scheme which was developed by the award-winning Goddard Littlefair team. Naturally, the aesthetic builds on the historic connections between Oscar Wilde and the dandy characters that were once heavily associated with Mayfair.

The property is also home to an impressively curated art collection by none other than Minda Dowling, bringing a charming vivacity to the surroundings and featuring art by both well-known and emerging talent. For example: a Clarita Brinkerhoff peacock sculpture on the property that sits at 67 inches high and is made out of 25,000 crystals.

Within the hotel there is also the Dandy Bar, which has been aptly named for the characters that once summed up the neighborhood. Guests can settle in for a drink or two at the theatrically decorated and artfully lit saloon with a curated list of cocktails and spirits—sure to be the see-and-be-seen-haunt for years to come.

If all of this is not enough to pique your interest, royal fans will note that the The Mayfair Townhouse is the sister property of Cliveden, where Meghan Markle stayed prior to the royal wedding in 2018.

Needless to say, it's a must-visit the next time you hop across the pond.
