Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen does not want to talk about his proclivity for crashing so far in 2018.

The Red Bull Racing driver is sixth in the points standings through the first six races of the season but has had a tumultuous year. He’s had incidents at some point in every race weekend. Two weeks ago at Monaco, Verstappen clipped the wall on a corner in the final practice session. The damage meant he missed qualifying at the tight track and had to start at the back of the field.

He drove through the field to finish ninth at Monaco, a race his teammate Daniel Ricciardo dominated and won. But that drive hasn’t distracted people from the damaged cars he’s had in 2018 and he was asked about the crashes Thursday at Montreal, the site of Sunday’s Formula 1 race.

From Formula 1’s website:

“Well you know, I get really tired of all the comments about me that I should change my approach,” Verstappen shot back early on in the press conference, contradicting somewhat his words immediately after the Monaco Grand Prix. “I will never do that, because it’s brought me to where I am right now.”

When one journalist pointedly asked ‘Why have you had so many accidents?’ the temperature in the press room dropped a few degrees as Verstappen’s gaze hardened.

“I don’t know,” he said before a long pause. “And like I said at the beginning of this press conference, I get really tired of all the questions. And I think if I get a few more, I’ll head-butt someone…”

That’s quite the specific threat, don’t you think? A headbutt in a press scrum would be quite interesting to watch, though we’re not exactly promoting the possibility of it happening.

Maybe Verstappen was thinking back to Baku, when he got head-butted on the track by Ricciardo as the two drivers raced into Turn 1.

Our best advice to Verstappen this weekend is to go through practice, qualifying and the race without any accidents. A good finish will lessen the probability of a headbutt considerably.
