Moving on and taking accountability. Matty Healy addressed his behavior amid Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s reported romance.
The 1975 frontman and the “Cruel Summer” singer briefly had a fling in spring of 2023. After the two reportedly split, Taylor has been making headlines with NFL Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The 1989 (Taylor’s Version) singer attended the last Chiefs’ game against the Chicago Bears on September 24, 2023, at the team’s home field of Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. While she was there, Taylor was photographed cheering over a touchdown in a suite alongside Travis Kelce‘s friends and family—including his mom, Donna—seemingly confirming recent rumors that she and the NFL tight end are dating.

At a 1975 concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California, Matty Healy apologized to the people he “hurt.”
“Because some of my actions have hurt some people, I apologize to those people, and I pledge to do better moving forward,” he said. “I think it’s also important that I express my intentions, so everybody knows that there is no ill will coming from me. You see, as an artist, I want to create an environment for myself to perform where not everything that I do is taken literally…”
He continued, “I’ve kind of performed exaggerated versions of myself on other stages, be it print or on podcasts and in an often misguided attempt at fulfilling the kind of character role of the 21st century rock star – so, it’s complicated.”
The “Love If We Made It” singer also added, “Sometimes playing pretend is the only way you can truly find out who you are, and you could probably also say that men would rather do offensive impressions for attention than go to therapy.”
In previous concerts, Matty announced that the 1975 will be going on an “indefinite hiatus” when the current round of dates on their Still… At Their Very Best world tour wraps up with a March 24, 2024 show in Amsterdam. Though fans were scared that the band would break up, Matty assured that wasn’t the case. “I didn’t mean to scare any hardcore fans by insinuating that we were splitting up or anything like that,” he said during a concert.
When did Matty Healy & Taylor Swift date?
On May 3, 2023, sources told The Sun that Taylor Swift is reportedly dating The 1975 frontman, Matty Healy. A source told the UK gossip site, that the two “are madly in love.” “It’s super-early days, but it feels right. They first dated, very briefly, almost ten years ago but timings just didn’t work out,” the source said. “Taylor and Joe actually split up back in February, so there was absolutely no crossover.”
“Both Matty and Taylor have been touring over the past few weeks, so it’s been a lot of Face-Timing and texting but she cannot wait to see him again,” the source said while Taylor is in the thick of her Eras Tour while Matty is wrapping up The 1975’s At Their Very Best tour. “But as two international megastars, they understand the pressures of one another’s jobs better than anyone, and are incredibly supportive of their respective careers. They are both massively proud and excited about this relationship and, unlike Taylor’s last one — which was very much kept out of the spotlight, deliberately — she wants to ‘own’ this romance, and not hide it away. Taylor just wants to live her life, and be happy. She’s told pals Matty is flying to Nashville over the weekend to support her on the next leg of her tour.”
The two have been spotted together after her Eras tour concerts and they headed out of Electric Lady Studios frequently. It all came to an end on June 5, 2023, when a source told TMZ that the two called it quits when Taylor was reportedly “single.” Fans also noticed that she was crying during one of her surprise songs: “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever in Chicago” a very well-known song about a breakup. A short-lived romance!
In July 2023, Taylor seemingly responded to rumors she and Matty were back together with an Instagram post on Fourth of July captioned: “Happy belated Independence Day from your local neighborhood independent girlies.” HAIM, who was included in the post, also shared the same photo with the caption: “single summer.” A source also told People on July 5, 2023, that Taylor and Matty weren’t even in contact anymore after their breakup. “They are absolutely not together and aren’t even in contact anymore. She is enjoying being single and has been spending time in the studio and hanging out with friends in New York City. This is all B.S.,” the insider said. Another source added, “It’s complete nonsense. Not true at all.”
Rumors Taylor and Matty were back together came after The Sun reported in July 2023 that the two were back on following their breakup. “There is just something electric between them and they seem to have overcome it all quite quickly and decided they definitely want to make it work at all costs,” the insider said. “They’re arranging time together in between tour dates and talking all the time. He’s utterly smitten and it seems to be mutual.”
The source continued, “It sounds as though there may have been some issues behind the scenes but he’s made changes to fix them. One thing is for sure, he isn’t letting anything come between his chances of making it work with Taylor.”
However, both of them moved on. Taylor is reportedly dating Travis Kelce while Matty is currently dating model Gabriette Bechtel.
Why is Matty Healy controversial?
Matty Healy is notorious for his on-stage antics and his controversial remarks. Recently he appeared in the news after Ice Spice, who collaborated with Swift on a remix of “Karma,” revealed that he apologized for his appearance on the podcast The Adam Friedland Show.
In January 2023, Matty Healy appeared on the podcast The Adam Friedland Show with the comedian and co-host Nick Mullen. Matty mentioned that he tried to message rapper Ice Spice on Instagram to which the co-hosts mocked her name and participated in racist insults towards Chinese, Hawaiian and Inuit people by doing mocking accents. One of the hosts responded to Matty, “Inuit Spice Girl,” and continued “This chubby Chinese lady. ‘Yeah, I rap and [make] music.’ Do they talk like that? Do Inuits talk like that?” Though Matty didn’t participate, he did laugh along with the hosts. Elsewhere in the podcast, he admitted he masturbated to porn of “brutalised” women with hosts Adam Friedland and Nick Mullen added that they saw him watching Ghetto Gaggers, a porn site known for videos featuring the humiliation and brutalization of Black women.
Ice Spice revealed to Variety that Healy apologized for his actions. “When I had heard that little podcast or whatever, I was so confused. Because I heard ‘chubby Chinese lady’ or some s—t like that, and I’m like, ‘Huh? What does that even mean?’ First of all, I’m thick. What do you mean Chinese? What? But then they apologized or whatever. And the whole time, I didn’t really care.”
She continued, “But that’s funny because I saw him at the Jean Paul Gaultier party a couple days ago, and he was like, “Hey, you OK?” and I’m like, “Of course.” He apologized to me a bunch of times. We’re good.”
