People reports that the actor — who's been married to Renee Puente since 2014 — was asked to leave the show after it was revealed that "he had an inappropriate relationship with a female contestant," according to a source.

"They didn't have sex, but he reached out to her through flirty direct messages on social media," the source told People.

"She felt uncomfortable with his line of comments and went to producers, who then got Fox involved. He was fired after they did their own investigation."

The source also told People that Matthew never met up with the contestant off set and that "it was just messages that crossed the line."

As Entertainment Weekly points out, Matthew's firing doesn't necessarily mean you won't see him on the show. Since a decent amount of So You Think You Can Dance was pre-taped, he'll appear as a judge until mid-June.

Matthew hasn't said anything publicly since the latest reports came to light, but he did make a statement last week when his departure was announced.

"Having the opportunity to be a judge on So You Think You Can Dance was an incredible honor for me," he said. "Therefore, it is my deepest regret to inform you that I will be leaving the show."

"After filming the audition rounds for the show and completing the selection of the 12 finalists, I did not follow competition production protocols, preventing me from being able to judge the competition fairly."
